Head of Collection Development The University of Texas at San Antonio
Library is seeking a dynamic, energetic, user oriented librarian to
provide leadership, organization, and management skills as Head of
Collection Development. This position is responsible for the effective
administration of the Library's collection development program and
reports to the Assistant Dean, Collections. Establishes goals and work
plans for Collection Development to meet Library and institutional
objectives. Responsible for coordinating the selection of all
materials added to the Library's collections. Coordinates activities
of library bibliographers to provide outreach and liaison with academic
divisions. Works closely with academic departments in program planning,
evaluation, and accreditation reports. Establishes and encourages open
communication among bibliographers and liaisons. Manages the library
materials budget. Coordinates contract negotiations for library
resources. As bibliographer, responsible for the selection,
maintenance, and evaluation of library materials and the management of
funds in support of specific academic programs. Participates on the
Collections Management Team along with the Head of Acquisitions, Head
of Cataloging, and Head of Archives and Special Collections.
Qualifications: Required - MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program.
Five years of successful and increasingly responsible professional
experience in collection management and development. Demonstrated
successful management and supervisory experience. Ability to
communicate concepts and general and task-specific information in oral,
written, and electronic forms. Understanding of basic fund accounting
principles, contract negotiation, and technical foundations of a
digital library environment. Excellent analytical, interpersonal,
organizational, and communications skills; good oral and writing skills
in English; flexibility, creativity, energy, and a commitment to public
service. Experience with an integrated library system, preferably web-
based, and working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet
applications. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other
library units. Bibliographic expertise in an appropriate academic
discipline. Previous library budget planning experience. Must be able
to lift heavy books and push full book trucks with or without
accommodation. Preferred - Advanced degree in bibliographic area of
specialization. Academic library experience in a comparable setting.
Excellent grounding in technical and public service issues which affect
collection development. Knowledge of at least one foreign language.
Knowledge of or experience with digital libraries and/or institutional
repositories. Professionally active in the areas of responsibility of
this position. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications, within the
range of $48,451-$70,254 for a 12-month appointment plus benefits
package.
