Subject: Deana Astle Memorial Fund
Please share with your colleagues.
Academic Library Services at East Carolina University has established
the Deana L. Astle Memorial Fund to honor the memory of Deana Astle, who
served as the Associate Director for Collections and Technical Services
from 2001 until her death December 7, 2005 after a long and courageous
battle with cancer.
Deana was strongly dedicated to libraries and the freedom to read. Among
her most notable achievements was research into discriminatory journal
pricing policies among European publishers for which she was a
co-recipient of the prestigious Bowker Ulrich's Serials Librarianship
Award in 1991. Her professional activities included active participation
in the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG), American Library
Association (ALA), Association for Library Collections and Technical
Services (ALCTS), and the Charleston Conference on Acquisitions. Many
who knew her well will remember her professional integrity, generous
nature, and perhaps most of all, how she approached every day with joy
and humor.
The Deana L. Astle Memorial Fund will provide a lasting tribute to
Deana's vision and enduring commitment to libraries and the communities
they serve. Proceeds from this fund will be used for new acquisitions in
support of growing programs at East Carolina University.
If you would like to participate in the Library's efforts to honor Deana
Astle, please send contributions to the Office of Library Development.
Contributions should be made payable to the Deana L. Astle Memorial
Fund, Office of Library Development, East Carolina University, 2400
Joyner Library, Greenville, NC 27858-4353. Thank you for your generous
support of this fund.
