ALA Midwinter Discussion: Usage-Based Pricing
If you're attending the ALA Midwinter Meeting in San Antonio, and
interested in how usage is and could be applied to journal and database
pricing, please attend our discussion group session. Ever evolving
pricing models can address usage in a variety of ways. Panelists
representing multiple aspects of the publishing and library community
will each suggest a few points for inclusion in the discussion. The
moderator will encourage attendee participation. Topics are likely to
cover:
. What are the challenges and who might benefit from this trend?
. What current models include a usage component and what can we learn
from them?
. Does usage based pricing offer a way for librarians to increase the
range of content they can offer users without breaking the bank? But
at whose expense?
. Can COUNTER statistics collection help make this feasible and fair?
Is additional development needed?
. How would this concept apply to consortial purchases?
This meeting of the ALCTS SS Journal Costs in Academic Libraries
