Subject:  Position opening: Alliant International University

Alliant International University seeks applicants for the Collection 
Services Librarian position at its San Diego campus.

 

Alliant International University is a nonprofit, independent university, 
accredited by WASC. The University provides education to 3000 graduate 
and 400 undergraduate students enrolled at six locations across 
California, as well as an additional 200 students in Mexico City and 
Tokyo. Alliant, formed in 2001 through the combination of CSPP and USIU, 
identifies itself as the "professional practice university," preparing 
students to enter professions in the applied social sciences. Alliant 
maintains the emphases on diversity and internationalism established by 
its legacy institutions.

 

The Alliant Library is a distributed network of human and information 
resources. Staff members provide direct services to their campus 
communities, while collaborating in university-wide library initiatives 
and development. Walter Library, at the San Diego campus, has eight 
full-time staff members and currently serves a community of 1100 
graduate and 300 undergraduate students enrolled in business, education, 
international relations, and psychology programs. The 60-acre San Diego 
campus lies in Scripps Ranch, a safe, wooded community about 12 miles 
east of the ocean and 20 minutes from downtown.

 

The Collection Services Librarian, reporting to the Director of Library 
Services, oversees campus collection services functions and manages 
University-wide digital collections. Specific responsibilities include:

 

·         Oversee campus library acquisitions functions

·         Serve as collection development liaison to selected academic 
departments. Select materials for acquisition.

·         Manage campus serials and participate in University-wide 
renewal processes.

·         Supervise acquisitions, cataloging, and serials support staff.

·         Participate in reference desk coverage.

·         Manage digital collections. Coordinate trials, evaluation, and 
selection of digital resources for the Library system. Maintain 
effective and efficient access to digital resources.

·         Coordinate the collection and analysis of usage statistics.

·         Oversee development and maintenance of the Library's website 
and assist in its integration with University portals.

 


  Requirements

Education:            MLS or MILS from ALA-accredited program

Experience:            Two or more years of professional experience, 
academic preferred

Skills:               Excellent written and oral communication skills; 
strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills; ability to 
work independently and with colleagues in collaborative and team 
environments across distances; familiarity with integrated library 
systems, Innovative Interfaces Millennium preferred; knowledge of MARC 
formats and Library of Congress subject classification; familiarity with 
standard Web design tools and languages; knowledge of best practices, 
standards, issues, and trends relevant to digital resources; 
demonstrated ability to design attractive, effective, and complex websites
