Collection Development Librarian (Faculty Librarian)
Health Sciences Library System
University of Pittsburgh

The Health Sciences Library System (HSLS) at the University of 
Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Collection 
Development Librarian.  The Collection Development Librarian is a 
non-tenured Faculty Librarian in the Resource Management area, 
responsible for planning and coordination of the monograph collection 
(print and non-print).   Position reports to the HSLS Associate Director

for Resource Management.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

*	Establishes strategy and policies for collection development and

oversight for the library system. Coordinates activities of collection 
liaisons (selectors) assigned to HSLS libraries and subcollections, 
including approval review, firm/slip orders, and standing orders.
*	Manages approval plan.  Maintains subject and non-subject
profiles 
to support collecting needs of all HSLS libraries.
*	Prepares collection reviews and analyses from local and external

data, at the individual collection level and comprehensively as
necessary, 
to assure that collecting patterns meet the needs of current and future 
users.
*	Serves as liaison between selectors and Technical Services
staff. 
Works with the Head of Bibliographic Services to coordinate collections 
and technical services activities for greatest efficiency.
*	Keeps abreast of publishing and bookselling industry activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  MLS from an ALA accredited institution.  3-5 years 
experience in selecting materials for the health or life sciences in an 
academic environment. Knowledge of standard and emerging selection tools

for the health sciences.  Excellent interpersonal and communication 
skills; demonstrated ability to lead a project or work team 
successfully.  Ability to establish and maintain collaborative 
relationships with vendors. Strong analytical and data management 
skills. Experience with staff clients of an integrated library system, 
preferably Voyager. Knowledge of the book trade.

The Health Sciences Library System provides collections and services to 
meet the information needs of the educational, clinical and research 
programs of the schools of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Health 
and Rehabilitation Sciences, Nursing and the Graduate School of Public 
Health at the University of Pittsburgh, and the hospitals of the 
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. HSLS includes the following 
libraries: Falk Library of the Health Sciences, Western Psychiatric 
Institute and Clinic Library, the Libraries at UPMC Shadyside and the 
Libraries at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.  For more information
