Position Announcement for:
Montclair State University, Harry A. Sprague Library, Montclair, NJ
Position Title: Collection Management Librarian/ Librarian I
Vacancy#: V-206
Job Description:
Develops and implements policies, goals, and objectives and performance
standards. Monitors materials budget; coordinates Collection Development
Liaison Team for selection of appropriate materials for purchase,
consulting faculty, scholarly reviews and other sources.
Negotiates with publishers and vendors; seeks out and evaluates ordering
sources, including approval plans. Oversees selection and evaluation of
materials for discard and replacement; reviews gift books. Prepares
statistical reports. Initiates and develops new projects.
Recommends purchase of supplies, equipment and the application of new
technical procedures. Directs, trains, and supervises staff and student
assistants; manages personnel matters, including the performance
evaluation process.
Serves on campus committees and participates in Library, University and
external professional activities. Keeps informed of professional trends
and practices. Works collaboratively with Library and faculty
departments.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Serves as liaison to one or more academic departments and provides
reference services on a limited basis. Reports to the Associate Dean for
Library Services in the Technical Services Division. This is a 12-month,
tenure-track appointment.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited
library school. Five (5) years' professional library experience (five
(5)
additional years' professional library experience may be considered in
substitution of the second master's degree). Excellent leadership
abilities and communication and interpersonal skills; analytical and
problem solving skills; initiative, flexibility and creativity. Strong
service orientation and commitment to continuous professional
development.
Preferred: Experience with collection development utilizing an
integrated
library system (especially Sirsi Unicorn). Experience in administration
of
a department or unit. Second master's degree in a subject area and/or
reading competence in one (1) foreign language.
Salary Range: $68,491.78
Anticipated Start Date: January 9, 2006 or as soon as possible
thereafter.
