Subject: Position Announcement
The University of Wyoming Libraries is seeking applicants for a Head of
Collection Development position.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head of Collection Development manages a complex
department consisting of three librarians, one classified staff, and
several student employees. This position is responsible for oversight
of a $3 million collection budget, including a monographic approval
plan and serials in print and electronic formats. In addition to the
general collections of the Libraries, the Head of Collection Development
also oversees specialized collections including the Hebard Wyoming
Collection, the Rocky Mountain Herbarium Collection, and the Jackson
Research Center.
The Libraries use a subject bibliographer model which requires the Head
of Collection Development to work with groups of librarians in
developing and implementing selection policies. These policies must
consider user needs, campus priorities, and fiscal resources. The Head
also coordinates collection-related activities with other library
departments including Access Services and Technical Services. The Head
provides leadership for scholarly communication issues and digital
library developments.
The Head of Collection Development works closely with the Libraries
Administration on university priorities, fund raising, donor
stewardship,
and campus politics regarding the collection budget and expenditures.
The Head is a member of the Libraries' Department Heads' group. The
Head pursues an active and ongoing program of professional development,
scholarship, and service, as a member of the library faculty.
This position reports to the Associate Dean of Libraries.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from an ALA accredited institution. Minimum
of five years of successful progressively responsible professional
experience. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty and
university departments in budget and collection reviews. Experience in
managing complex budgets. Experience in working with vendors to acquire
library materials in a variety of formats. Demonstrated excellent oral
and written communication skills in a library environment, working with
colleagues as well as with patrons. Understanding of current trends in
the publishing and information industries. Experience with collection
development activities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in an academic or research library.
Additional advanced degree. Personnel management experience.
Commitment
to cross-departmental collaboration and communication. Demonstrated
ability to work with university administration, faculty and students in
an
academic setting. Experience with the Endeavor integrated library
system.

2005. The minimum salary is $58,000, dependent on qualifications and
experience; 12-month appointment, 22 days vacation; sick leave, group
health insurance, state and TIAA-CREF retirement plans, no state income
