Acquisitions Librarian: Kansas State University Libraries

K-State Libraries is accepting applications for a tenure track 
Acquisitions Librarian overseeing monographic acquisitions and mail/
labeling operations. The acquisitions librarian reports to the Head of 
Collections Services. Salary will be commensurate with experience but 
not less than $45,000 annually. Rank (assistant or associate professor) 
will be dependent on qualifications and level of experience. 


Core Position Duties

Provides innovative leadership for monographic acquisitions services and

supervises the Order Unit staff and its operations (including ordering, 
receiving, invoicing, gifts, approvals, and materials processing); 
maintains overall responsibility for workflow, procedures, and output 
related to monograph acquisitions.

Monitors expenditures and fund accounts for firm and approval items; 
monitors the status of various funds in consultation with administrators

and subject librarians; works collaboratively with subject librarians to

provide timely acquisition of material for the collection; interacts 
with book vendors, subject librarians, and other library staff.

Serves as a member of the Libraries' Budget Team, compiling monthly 
activity reports.

Keeps abreast of vendor and system innovations and analyzes
implementation 
impact on the unit and the delivery of acquisitions services 

Monitors and evaluates the performance of firm order and approval plan 
vendors; provides timely vendor performance evaluations upon which 
recommendations for change are based; works collaboratively with subject

librarians to create and refine approval plan profiles.

Assists the Department Head with development of new policies,
procedures, 
and operational processes, the preparation of reports, and the 
introduction of new technologies 


Educational Requirements 

MLS from ALA accredited institution or equivalent


Required Qualifications 

Minimum 2 years professional acquisitions experience; demonstrated 
managerial skills; knowledge of trends in academic library acquisitions;

knowledge of domestic and foreign book trade and current publishing
issues; 
experience with book vendors; experience with applications of technology

to technical services practices including integrated library systems, 
bibliographic utilities, the World Wide Web, and electronic data
interchange 
(EDI); ability to work with colleagues in collaborative and team 
environments as well as independently; evidence of problem-solving
skills; 
excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to pursue 
activities and meet responsibilities necessary for achieving tenure at 
K-State Libraries 


Preferred Qualifications 

Experience in a large academic library 
Knowledge of the MARC format 
Experience working with highly diverse clientele 
Customer service orientation
