Subject: Budget Survey Participants Wanted

Request for Information and Participation:

The LAMA/LOMS Financial Management Committee is looking for information
from libraries of all types to prepare an article on strategic financial

decision-making.

Libraries are continually required to make critical budget decisions
that affect their programs, personnel and services. These decisions
often find departments within a library vying against each other for
the same budget dollars. Collection funding competes against staffing
needs; equipment requests are pitted against those for current expenses.

The decisions are complex, whether budgets are declining or increasing.

1) Have you acted strategically to make your financial decisions?
(Either with or without a formal plan.)

2) Have you used an existing strategic plan for this purpose?

3) If you answered "yes" to question 1 or 2 above, may we include a
three to four paragraph description of your experience in our article?
(We will interview you by phone or by e-mail at your convenience.)

Please respond to Nancy Myers (nmyers_at_usd.edu). Thank you in advance
for your contribution.
