Position Announcement: COLLECTIONS LIBRARIAN FOR LICENSED ELECTRONIC
RESOURCES
Description: This position reports to the Collections Coordinator in the
Collections & Research Services Division. The position will work with
the Collections Coordinator in all aspects of the acquisition of
licensed electronic resources for New York University's Division of
Libraries and in significant aspects of the management of such resources
subsequent to licensing. The position offers an excellent opportunity to
develop a wide-ranging expertise in electronic resources management in
support of the selection and evaluation, licensing, and persistent
access and use of licensed digital resources over time. The Collections
Librarian for Licensed Electronic Resources works closely with subject
librarians and the Electronic Resources Committee responsible for the
selection of digital resources; the Supervisor for Collections Services,
who assists with the building of an electronic resources management
infrastructure; and Acquisitions staff responsible for the ordering
and/or processing of electronic resources. Initial responsibilities will
entail a broad range of assignments, including reviewing licenses,
assisting with the negotiation of new agreements, resolving problems
with vendors, assessing the performance of serial vendors' electronic
journal services, and providing assistance with the implementation of a
new Electronic Resources Management System.
Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS and subject Master's degree required
for tenure. Minimum three years of relevant library experience;
demonstrated communication skills; ability to interact with diverse
teams
and to effectively communicate abstract ideas. Incumbent should be self-
directed, flexible and adaptable to change, analytical and results-
oriented. Experience working in team environments. Preferred: Strong
understanding of serials acquisitions; familiarity with business
principles and practices; experience with Library system. Familiarity
with trends in serials management and electronic resources/publishing.
Salary/Benefits: Faculty status and attractive benefits package,
including five weeks annual vacation. Salary is commensurate with
experience and background.
