Associate Director for Collection Services
Librarian IV or V
The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the
position of Associate Director for Collection Services. Under general
supervision of the Director of Libraries, p rovide creative leadership
in overall management of Collections Services Division including
Acquisitions/Serials Department, Cataloging and Processing Department,
Collection Development, ILL/Document Delivery Department. Coordinate
related consortial bibliographic, integrated library system and
collection development activities. Seek ways of incorporating new
technologies and developments in scholarly communication into Collection
Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ˇ Masters degree in library science from an American Library Association-
accredited library school.
ˇ Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience related
to collection services in a library comparable to that of the University
of Massachusetts Amherst, and a minimum of five years of successful
management and supervisory experience, at least three of which should be
as Head of a large department, or equivalent.
ˇ Strong service orientation.
ˇ Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to foster a collegial
work environment that encourages change and innovation; and ability to
interact effectively and work productively, collegially, cooperatively,
and collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups in a
changing environment.
ˇ Demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.
ˇ Demonstrated ability to analyze work processes and introduce
appropriate technological solutions for greater efficiency of
operations.
ˇ Demonstrated ability to conceive and implement long-term strategies
and achieve short-term goals.
ˇ Broad background in and knowledge of current trends in higher
education and the publishing industry and the ability to interpret them
in relation to the Library's collections.
ˇ Experience working in a consortial environment desirable.
ˇ Working knowledge of at least one foreign language.
