Technical Services and Collections Librarian - Oregon Institute of
Technology
The Oregon Institute of Technology Library invites applications to lead
the Technical Services and Collections Department. The department
includes acquisitions, serials, cataloging and metadata creation,
catalog maintenance, and collection management activities. This position
provides professional expertise and leadership in the analysis and
planning in support of the production and management of digital content
and plays a key role in the continuing development of the Klamath Waters
Digital Library (http://klamathwaterlib.oit.edu/).
The OIT Library serves the Klamath Falls campus of over 3000 students,
as well as branch campuses in Portland and distance learning programs.
The Library is a member of the Orbis Cascade Alliance. Librarians at OIT
are hired with academic rank on 12 month appointments. Service to the
profession and professional development are valued and supported by the
institution. The Library seeks committed and enthusiastic professionals
who thrive on working collaboratively in a collegial atmosphere.
Essential Functions:
* Provide leadership in the management of the Technical Services
and Collections Department: developing department goals, policies and
workflows; setting priorities; assigning tasks; tracking progress and
outcomes achievement; and fostering staff development.
* Supervise 2.25 library technicians who have primary
responsibilities in serials, acquisitions, copy cataloging, database
maintenance and other collection management activities (binding,
de-selection, etc.).
* Provide expertise and leadership in the analysis and planning in
support of the adoption, use, and management of metadata schema,
strategies and tools.
* Perform original cataloging of digital objects, print materials
and other items.
* Participate in the strategic planning for projects and processes
involving digital content. Bring to these discussions a broad expertise
in cataloging and metadata standards.
* Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments for collection
development.
Other Responsibilities:
* Provide reference assistance and instruction to students and
staff
* Serve on library, university and consortium committees
Requirements:
* ALA accredited master's degree in Library/Information Science
or equivalent
* Two years relevant professional cataloging experience in an
academic or research library or equivalent
* Knowledge of cataloging principles and experience with AACR2,
MARC , LC and metadata formats; knowledge of metadata/markup languages
and experience in cataloging digital objects
* Knowledge of current and emerging trends in academic library
services/resources as they relate to digital libraries
* Experience with an integrated library system, preferably
Innovative Interfaces;
* Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving
skills.
* Ability to learn new skills quickly and to manage a variety of
tasks and shifting priorities
* Demonstrated leadership abilities, including one year of
supervisory/management experience
* Ability to work effectively in a collegial environment and to
lead a collaborative team;
Preferred:
* Experience in the development of digital library services
* Experience with digital library management software, preferably
CONTENTdm
* Experience developing and implementing effective work routines
and procedures.
* Experience with Promptcat and Marcive
* Experience teaching information literacy skills in a classroom
setting
* Experience providing reference services.
* Ability to provide basic trouble shooting on staff and public
computers;
Salary DOE and legislative funding, $44,000--$47,000. The Oregon
University System offers a complete benefits package and low tuition
rates for employees or their dependents for continuing education
