Librarian, College of Charleston North Campus and Lowcountry Graduate
Center

The librarian for the College of Charleston North Campus and the
Lowcountry 
Graduate Center (LGC) provides core library and academic computing
services 
for a growing campus.  The College of Charleston North Campus serves 
approximately 1,000 undergraduates a semester and has had steady growth
for 
the last 10 years.  The Lowcountry Graduate Center is relatively new and

expanding very rapidly.  The College of Charleston Libraries presently
house 
approximately 500,000 volumes in the new Marlene and Nathan Addlestone 
Library.  The person in the position will report to Dean of Libraries at
the 
College of Charleston and the Executive Director of the Lowcountry
Graduate 
Center.  The duties include:

Works with the library staff at the College of Charleston to provide
library 
collections and services offered by the Marlene and Nathan Addlestone 
Library.  While the vast majority of the library resources will be 
electronic, the librarian manages and carries out all functions of a
small 
academic library (acquisitions, interlibrary loan, electronic reserves, 
organization of materials, reference, collection development and control
of 
materials).  Note, cataloging provided from main library. 
 
Instructs students and faculty in the use of library resources (print
and 
electronic information) and various software applications. 
 
Provides technical support (maintenance and trouble shooting) for
computing 
infrastructure (hardware, software and networking). 

Responsible for the identification of special needs of
commuting/distance 
learning community and develops strategies to provide electronic support
for 
this constituency. 
 
Assists in collection development activities to directly support
graduate 
programs of the North Area campus. 
 
Participates in the development and maintenance of a dynamic web-based 
services environment. 
 
Requirements:  

ALA-accredited Master of Library Science; Candidate must have strong
verbal 
and written skills, an ability to work independently and as part of a
team 
to accomplish goals and to create an innovative environment tailored to
the 
user community.

Desired:

Working experience with the following: electronic databases and library 
services; Web page development and maintenance; PC troubleshooting;
server 
maintenance and networking. 

Salary:

Minimum starting salary $35,000

Benefits:

This position is a full time, tenure track, eleven-month appointment.  
Benefits: state holidays (approximately 12 per year), paid sick leave
(ten 
hours/month), contribution towards moving expenses, health insurance,
dental 
insurance, optional 401K, 457 and 403B supplemental retirement accounts,
and 
a variety of optional insurance plans including Long Term Disability and
Long 
Term Care.  Retirement plans include either the South Carolina
Retirement 
System or one of the State optional retirement programs.
