Online Journal Specialist will be part of the PubMed Central project
team.

For the PubMed project, all material is submitted to the archive as SGML
or
XML along with associated image, PDF, and supplementary data files in
additional formats. We are looking someone with the following skills and
experience to help manage the flow of data into the archive.

The successful candidate will have:
	*	Background in publishing or library science.

	*	Knowledge of SGML, XML, and DTDs.
	*	Familiarity with web and online systems, specifically
electronic journals.
	*	Excellent analytical skills.

Furthermore, the candidate will have the following technical experience:
	*	Familiarity with at least one SGML/XML DTD used for
encoding
journal articles, as well as with electronic image formats (TIFF, GIF,

	*	Experience with processing content for online systems,
specifically conversion of content from one SGML/XML DTD to another or
with
creating an HTML online presentation of full-text articles from XML
source.
	*	Ability to conduct data analysis and work with
programmers
and publishers to implement solutions.
	*	Experience managing production workflow of an online
scientific journal, or similar workflow management.

As a member of the content team, the position will include the following
duties:
	*	When a journal is first submitted to the archive, the
candidate will perform a comprehensive check of the electronic
submission to
ensure that the data files accurately represent the original journal
article
content - full text as well as figures, tables, math, etc.
	*	For journals in routine production, the candidate will
process journal articles/issues received in electronic form and load
them
into the PubMed Central database.
	*	The candidate will check the accuracy and integrity of
articles online against the original print version or PDF file copy.
When
discrepancies are detected in the online version, determine the cause -
software or data problem - and define what corrections are needed.
	*	The candidate will keep track of incoming content and of
the
progress of work on multiple journals in development or production.
