Library Network Coordinator and Manager of Library
Opportunity for a creative thinker to help reinvent library services for
Federal Agency.
As manager, the incumbent oversees all services and functions of the
library,
which serves approximately 7,000 staff in the Washington, DC area as
well as
members of the public. Duties include supervision of a staff of 5 and
oversight
of the following areas: management of the library's collection of over
20,000
materials, reference and research, interlibrary loan and document
delivery, web
site maintenance, acquisitions and collection development, marketing,
facilities issues, etc. The incumbent manages the library's budget and
purchasing. The incumbent also serves as the primary research librarian
for the
library, performing in-depth literature searches for EPA staff.
The incumbent plays a leadership role for the Library Network, a network
of
libraries located across the nation. These duties include oversight of
network
web sites, listserv and monthly teleconferences, planning the network's
annual
meeting, compiling and analyzing network statistics, managing the
network's many
electronic resources, and providing technical assistance/consulting to
the
network libraries. The incumbent offers professional advice on library
management and policy issues to the Federal Program Manager for the
Library
Network, including providing input on the current effort to reorganize
the
network.
Skills and abilities:
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to interact with a wide variety of clients and colleagues with
diplomacy and tact.
Knowledge of all functional areas of a specialized library.
Ability to think creatively about the provision of library services to a
patron
base that is diverse and geographically distributed.
Proficiency with professional research tools, both print and online.
Education and experience:
Masters of library or information science
At least 5 years professional experience in libraries; 4 years
supervisory
experience
Familiarity with information technologies as related to library services
