Paul V. Galvin Library, Illinois Institute of Technology
Head, Collection Development and Management
The Paul V. Galvin Library seeks an experienced and forward thinking
librarian to provide strong leadership and direction for collection
development and management services in support of an undergraduate and
graduate student population of 6,000+ as well as a teaching and research
faculty of 580.
The head of collection development and management is responsible for
providing leadership, vision, and coordination of all resources and
activities that result in a useful, orderly, and accessible collection,
including policy development, collection analysis, and budgeting. He/she
will oversee a collaborative team of subject specialist librarians and
be
responsible for selecting materials in Civil and Architectural,
Electrical
and Computer, Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering. Reporting
to
the associate dean of IIT libraries, the head of collection development
and
management participates fully in the overall administration of the IIT
Libraries, including long-range planning, program development and
evaluation, budget formulation, and the establishment of system-wide
policies.
Required Qualifications: A Master's degree in Library Science from an
ALA-accredited program and 2-5 years of professional experience in an
academic or research library. Candidate will posses an extensive
knowledge
of print and online science and/or engineering reference sources;
familiarity with collection development and assessment; ability to write
collection development policies; manage book approval plans; and
undertake
statistical analysis and budget management. The candidate should be
experienced in writing accreditation and statistical reports and project
management. Supervisory experience is also required. Must demonstrate
strong organizational, planning, and promotional skills. Must possess
strong
communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact
effectively with colleagues, patrons and other diverse groups and
individuals. DESIRED: Preference given to individuals with a Bachelor's
or
higher degree in science or engineering or equivalent experience.
Environment: The Paul V. Galvin Library has 27 permanent staff to manage
over 1,000,000 volumes as well as significant digital collections. For

Illinois Institute of Technology is a private, Ph.D. granting university

Salary/benefits/rank: Salary will be competitive and based on
