Wake Forest University invites applications and nominations for the
position 
of Head of Collection Management for the Z. Smith Reynolds Library.
This 
position is a member of the Library Administrative Council and reports
to 
the Library Director.

 The Z. Smith Reynolds Library, with a collection of over 1.4 million 
volumes, materials expenditures of $3.4 million, and operating budget
over 
$5 million, serves over 4,000 students in the undergraduate College, the

Calloway School of Business and Accountancy, the Graduate School of Arts

and Sciences, and the Divinity School of Wake Forest University.  

Wake Forest is a private university where academic excellence is

recognized through rankings in the top tier of the country's finest
liberal 
arts institutions.  Wake Forest offers a rare combination - the academic
and 
technological resources, facilities and Division I athletic programs 
associated with a large university with the compact campus, small
classes and

beautifully located between the western mountains and east coast beaches
of
North Carolina. 

 The Head of Collection Management:  Provides leadership for the
collection 
management program of an evolving research library that supports the
teaching 
and research mission of the University; guides planning for collection 
management functions that include traditional, digital and future
services; 
administers collection analysis activities, approval plans, selection, 
de-selection, and gift books; manages the Library Liaison program;
negotiates 
license agreements for digital resources.  

 Qualifications:  MLS from ALA accredited program plus at least 5 years
of 
increasingly responsible experience in collection management in an
academic 
or research library. An equivalent combination of education and
experience 
may be accepted.  Second Master's degree preferred.  Reading ability in
one 
or more foreign languages preferred. 

 Knowledge, Skills, Ability:  

*	Extensive knowledge and understanding of current issues and
trends in 
collection management and scholarly communications. 
*	Understanding of and commitment to the library's role in the
support of
teaching and research. 
*	Demonstrated successful experience in planning, developing,
evaluating 
and budgeting for collections in a complex library environment. 
*	Strong commitment and ability to establish and maintain
productive, 
long-term, effective working relationships with faculty, students, staff
and 
administrators. 
*	Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work both
independently and 
collaboratively throughout the University. 
*	Demonstrated supervisory and managerial ability. 
*	Excellent communication (oral and written), organizational,
analytical 
and decision-making skills. 
*	Experience working with integrated library systems. 
*	Demonstrated competency with Windows applications including MS
Office Word, 
Excel and Access, and Internet applications. 
*	Record of commitment to continual professional development and
effective 
participation in professional associations.               

Essential Functions:

*	Provides leadership in articulating the direction, balance and
emphasis of 
collections, including monographs, serials, and digital resources;
monitors 
publishing trends in both electronic and print resources; manages
Collection 
Management Team. 
*	Plans and implements the collection management program by
formulating 
collection management objectives, policies and procedures; establishes
criteria 
of excellence and effectiveness; administers activities including
collection 
analysis, approval plans, selection and de-selection; coordinates gift
program 
and participates in negotiations with donors; negotiates license
agreements for 
digital resources.                                   
*	Formulates, allocates and monitors the materials budget;
Provides analyses 
and reports on materials expenditures. 
*	Fosters cooperative relationships and effectively communicates
with 
academic departments to ensure an understanding of collection management
needs 
for individual disciplines; maintains and promotes close contacts with
faculty; 
interprets the library's collection development activities to the
academic 
community.  
*	Coordinates and provides leadership, guidance and training to
library's 
departmental liaisons; Works with faculty to anticipate materials
requirements for 
new programs or courses and to prepare for accreditation process. 
*	Promotes communication within the collection management team and
throughout 
the library by encouraging and actively engaging in the exchange of
information 
through all levels of the organization and by working closely with team
leaders to 
coordinate collections policies and procedures that impact the other
areas in the 
library. 
*	Collaborates with appropriate team leaders on issues relating to
stacks 
space, off-site storage and collections and acquisitions data. 
*	Serves as library liaison to one or more academic departments
and selects 
materials to be added to the collection. 
*	Represents the library in collection management matters by
participating in 
appropriate forums at the state, regional and national levels and by
serving as the 
library's principal resource person for collection management issues. 
*	Serves on library and University committees; participates in
departmental, 
team and library-wide activities; participates in outreach, marketing,
assessment 
and other library initiatives; participates in continual professional
development 
and professional associations; may provide a variety of reference
services 
including in-depth reference assistance and library instruction; may
participate in 
technology training initiatives for students and faculty; performs other
duties as 
assigned.
