POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
HEAD, TECHNICAL SERVICES
TROY UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

RESPONSIBILITIES: Seeking a creative, energetic leader to lead the
technical 
services team including 1 cataloger and 5 clerical employees.  In an
online 
environment this person will have overall management of acquisitions, 
cataloging, serials and processing; will participate as a member of the 
Collection Development Committee; and will participate in the regular
weekend 
rotation on the reference desk.  Research/creative activity, public
service 
and involvement in professional associations are expected.  The position

reports to the Dean of Library Services.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required:  ALA accredited MLS and a minimum of five
years of 
increasingly responsible professional experience in an academic library.

Supervisory experience is required.  Technical service experience in one
of 
the following is required:  acquisitions, cataloging and serials.
Knowledge 
of OCLC, AACR2, LCSH, LC, DDC, metadata and SIRSI is highly desirable.
The 
ability to work with users and staff of varying technical abilities is
very 
important.  Excellent communications skills both written and oral are 
necessary.

Salary and Rank: Based on experience and qualifications but appointment
at 
the assistant professor level is anticipated.  The minimum salary is
$45,600 
and the position is tenure track.  Appointment date is August 1, 2005
but 
the position is available immediately.  The position will remain open
until
