This position is located in: Shields Library and is not represented by a

union. Working hours: M-F, 8-5. 

This External position is for UCD/UCDHS employees and the general
public.

The General Library consists of the Peter J. Shields Library, the
Carlson 
Health Sciences Library and the Physical Sciences & Engineering Library
in 
Davis, and the Medical Center Library in Sacramento. For more

Responsibilities: Manage and coordinate ordering, claiming, receiving,
and 
copy cataloging activities for monographs and media in the Acquisitions 
Unit. Supervise and oversee training of unit staff; oversee processing 
activities for Library's Gifts and Exchange Programs. Participate in all

aspects of management of the Unit, including procedural development, 
revision, implementation and documentation. Contribute to organizational

effectiveness. Analyze workflow and reassign duties as appropriate. 
Facilitate communication within the Unit; develop and disseminate 
instructions and information to staff; organize and conduct meetings. 
Assist in preparing management reports in support of technical services 
and collection development. Gather data from appropriate sources and by 
coordinating with appropriate staff, including formulating and
submitting 
data requests to Systems Department. Assist Acquisitions Librarian in 
coordinating with collection development staff regarding approval plans.

Provide management support to the Acquisitions Librarian and Department 
Head on short- and long-range planning, organizing, staffing and 
supervision.

Requirements: Ability to organize work effectively and prioritize
functions 
to achieve timely progress on multiple simultaneous tasks, distribute 
effort appropriately among staff, meet deadlines, and maintain a high
level 
of productivity. Demonstrated skill to utilize an integrated information

system to extract data and process transactions (experience with 
acquisitions module of an integrated library system preferred).
Experience 
using Internet, email, word processing and spreadsheet software. Strong 
leadership and operational management experience. Ability to exercise 
independent judgment to solve problems and make appropriate decisions. 
Ability to evaluate plans, needs and procedures for multiple workflows. 
Knowledge of bibliographic records to copy-catalog, interpret records, 
perform complex bibliographic services, differentiate between
monographs, 
standing orders and serials. Skill in working with complex bibliographic

tools in English and major foreign language. General knowledge of
library 
procedures and technical services operations. Acquisitions and/or
accounting 
and/or copycataloging background strongly preferred. Demonstrated
analytical 
skills to anticipate/identify problems, and to compare data to draw 
conclusions in support of short- and long-range planning efforts.
Excellent 
oral and written communication skills to provide clear and concise 
information and instructions, correspondence and performance appraisals.

Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of people
including 
co-workers, staff in other library departments, vendors and the public. 
General knowledge of procurement practices, policies and procedures
(DaFIS/UC 
preferred). Special Conditions of Employment: Work in an area where
there is 
constant traffic, interruptions, and noise from computer terminals,
printers, 
and conversations. Work in close proximity to and in constant
interaction 
with others. Restricted eating and drinking in work area. Physical 
Requirements: Lift books weighing up to 10 lbs. Interpret fine/standard
print, 
handwritten/penciled annotations, requests and various computer screen
fonts, 
sizes and qualities; read CRT screens. Operate keyboard equipment for
extended 
periods of time.
