Ohio University Libraries
Head of Acquisitions and Serials Control

The Ohio University Libraries invite applications and nominations for
the 
position of Head of Acquisitions and Serials Control.  The successful 
applicant will lead a department of 6 FTE and student workers
responsible 
for the acquisition of materials in all formats.

The Ohio University Libraries belong to the Association of Research 
Libraries (ARL) and enjoy the rich benefits of a stable materials budget
of 
approximately $5 million per year and membership in OhioLINK, the
premier 
statewide consortium.

The Ohio University Libraries are in the midst of an ambitious program
of 
innovation highlighted by a newly opened state-of-the-art Learning
Commons 
and a bolstered commitment to a continuing high level of service. The 
Acquisitions and Serials Control department itself has embarked on a 
comprehensive reorganization designed to take highest advantage of a 
strong, dedicated staff integrated into a progressive library system.

The university resides in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian 
Mountain Range in rural Southeastern Ohio.  As the first university 
established in the Northwest Territory, Ohio University celebrated its 
bicentennial in 2004.  Under the leadership of new president Roderick 
McDavis, the University has charted an ambitious course for academic 
excellence and progressive social growth.  We have been recently ranked

Position Responsibilities
This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Technical Services with 
responsibilities for:
o       Daily operations of a department performing ordering, receiving,

preliminary cataloging, serials check-in, and binding.
o       Establishing and implementing department policies and
procedures, 
and for setting priorities in collaboration with other units.
o       Supervision and development of Acquisitions staff.
o       Working with vendors and serving to ensure quality service.
o       Working closely with collection development librarians,
technical 
services staff, and the library accounting unit responsible for payment
of 
monograph and serial invoices.
o       Participating on library committees and representing the
libraries 
at state, regional, and national levels.
o       Serving as subject bibliographer for at least one assigned
academic 
discipline with responsibility for collection development, library 
instruction, promotion of library resources and individual research 
consultation.

Qualifications
ALA accredited MLS or equivalent training or work experience; experience
in 
library acquisitions or related field, supervisory experience, excellent

communication, interpersonal skills; knowledge of U.S. and international

publishing industry.  Preference will be given to candidates with 
significant acquisitions experience (2-3 years) in an academic or large 
public library, and experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. systems
and 
OCLC.

Employment Information
Salary is commensurate with experience. Negotiations start at $41,586.
Ohio
