Collection Development/Acquisitions Librarian
W. I. Dykes Library

Under the general direction of the Assistant Director for Technical
Services,
coordinates and facilitates collection development and acquisition of
books,
audiovisual and other non-serial material. Supervises three library
assistants and two work-study employees.
Duties:
Develops and documents policies, work flows, and procedures for the
collection development and acquisition functions.
Monitors acquisition activities, including pre-order verification,
ordering,
receiving, payment and claiming processes.
Trains and evaluates staff and student assistants according to
established
library procedures.
Participates in developing and monitoring the overall library materials
budget. Produces budget and collection development reports.
Uses PeopleSoft Financial to oversee reconciliation of library
accounting
with university accounting.
Develops business relationships with vendors and publishers, including
monitoring and evaluating vendor performance.
Assesses and evaluates existing and potential collections to guide
collection
development and management decisions.
Serves as chair of the Collection Development Committee.
Oversees all collection assessments, including those for new academic
programs and new and renewed accreditations.
Collaborates with librarians and faculty in regard to selection of
serials
and online database acquisitions.
Works collaboratively with other library departments to manage
non-serial
collections storage, access, contents, and use.
Additional Responsibilities:
Reference desk service as assigned, may include nights and weekends.
Participates as an Academic Department Liaison for Collection
Development.
Collaborates with the Instruction Librarian to provide Library
Orientation
upon request.
Weeds the general collection in an appropriate subject area.
Qualifications:
Required -- ALA-accredited MLS; course work and/or experience in
technical
services. The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of
library collection development principles with an awareness of current
and
emerging trends in publishing and information delivery. Must possess
the
ability to use computer technology effectively, plan and maintain
budgets,
keep track of details, negotiate and problem solve with vendors, work
independently and as part of a team, communicate well, and develop
collegial
working relationships with others. A strong customer service
orientation is
required, as is a demonstrated commitment to an undergraduate,
open-admission
environment.
Preferred -- Work experience in an academic library; experience in
library
acquisitions, supervision, staff training, and using the Innovative
Interfaces
system; business financial experience.
Starting Salary: $36,000
