POSITION:  Instructor/Assistant Professor
COLLECTION MANAGEMENT ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
Full-time, Tenure-Track Faculty
Beginning July 2005

Responsibilities:

The Collection Management Librarian (Acquisitions) position currently
has 
the responsibility for managing acquisitions of library serial materials

within the Collection Management department including supervision of 1.5

Library Technician II classified staff members. This position will be 
evolving to include acquisitions management for all library collections.

The librarian coordinates and provides leadership within a collaborative

environment in establishing and implementing department procedures and 
setting department goals and priorities.
 
Specific duties include: 

Oversees the acquisition of library serial materials, e-subscriptions, 
microformat and print formats 
Hires, supervises and evaluates support staff in the Acquisitions 
Department 
Monitors and participates in acquisitions activities including pre-order

verification, ordering, receiving, payment, checkin and claiming
processes 
Works closely with the Library Director and the Collection Management
Team 
in developing the allocation of the overall acquisitions budget 
Monitors the serials acquisitions budget throughout the fiscal year 
Oversees commercial binding preparations of both serials and monographs 
Produces department reports yearly or as needed 
Manages the serial titles and evaluates usage statistics for recommended

renewal, purchase, retention or cancellation 
Collaborates with librarians and campus departments in regard to
selection 
and withdrawal of serials and online resources 
Serves as primary contact, selects and monitors vendor performance 
Assesses quality and negotiates prices for individual online journals
and 
publisher journal packages; handles license agreements 
Performs consortium research 
Works closely with the Reference/Electronic Services Librarian when
dealing 
with e-subscriptions 
Assists in determining the disposition of donated and withdrawn serials 
Manages the standing order titles 
Works closely with the Collection Management Team on weeding projects 
Performs liaison work with selected departments 
Teaches at least one section of LIB 150: Introduction to Library
Research 
Methods (a one-credit course) 
Teaches bibliographic instruction sessions as requested by the liaison 
academic departments 
Provides reference service in rotation with professional librarians 
Participates in developing and documenting policies, workflows, and 
procedures 
Meets requirements for promotion and tenure in the areas of
librarianship 
in accordance with library and campus policies 
Pursues professional growth and development 
Other duties as assigned 
 
Special Projects:

Transition the department from its current serials management role to
the 
broader role of acquisitions management all library materials. Future 
coordination of the libraries' overall collection strategy in meeting
the 
college's curricular needs 

The Collection Management Librarian (Acquisitions) serves as liaison to 
selected academic departments. He/She participates in College faculty 
committee work; and attends professional meetings, workshops, and
conferences 
as time and travel funds are available. 

The Collection Management Librarian (Acquisitions) (with other library 
faculty and staff members) participates directly in library governance
and 
management through serving as a member of the Library Management Council
and 
as a member of various library teams; other duties determined through
library 
governance procedures. This position is reviewed by library colleagues 
according to the procedures specified in the Fort Lewis College Faculty 
handbook and in departmental documentation.

Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited master's degree in library or 
information science; demonstrated experience in working independently
and as 
part of a team; excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication 
skills; experience demonstrating organizational and problem-solving
skills; 
knowledge of automated integrated library systems. 

Preferred: OCLC experience; Serial and acquisitions experience;
Innovative 
Interfaces (III) experience; Minimum of 1 year library experience; 
Supervisory experience.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary:
$31,000-34,000 depending on qualifications

Benefits:
