Ordering Librarian
Acquisitions Department
Stanford University Libraries
Description:
Oversee the ordering functions of SUL's Acquisitions Department in
keeping
with the Department's mission to acquire and make accessible the breadth
and depth of information and materials necessary to advance University
scholarship and research. Supervise Ordering Unit staff of
approximately
10 FTE. Plan for the long-range needs of the Ordering Unit and
contribute
to planning for the Acquisitions Department as a whole.
This position is posted at the levels of Assistant and Associate
Librarian.
Compensation and rank will be based on experience and relevant
qualifications. It reports to the head of the Acquisitions Department.
Duties:
Coordinate SUL's ordering program, including all orders in all formats
(including Internet resources); supervise approximately 10 highly
skilled
paraprofessional staff.
Collaborate with managers in other Acquisitionsunits to ensure
coordination
of procedures and effective workflow within Acquisitions and with other
SUL
units.
Oversee the function and application of the Sirsi Unicorn ILS order
module
in collaboration with other Acquisitions and Library Systems staff.
Manage order workflow in vendor databases (e.g., GOBI, Otto) in
collaboration with other Acquisitions and Library Systems staff.
Develop and document policies and procedures to support the work of the
unit and its effective interaction with other units throughout SUL.
Formulate and implement projects to improve Acquisitions'service to SUL.
Qualifications:
At the Assistant Librarian level:
An ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent training or work experience.
Experience in applying database software to control and production
tasks.
Work experience in a library technical services or similar function.
Ability to manage the work of staff in an environment that is focused on
detail and constantly changing.
Ability to manage and prioritize and delegate to meet deadlines in a
complex, energetic environment.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of one or more languages other than English is preferred.
At the Associate Librarian level:
3-5 years work experience in library technical services function.
