POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION:  Instructor/Assistant Professor

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT LIBRARIAN
Full-time, Tenure-Track Faculty:
Nine-Month Contract (with possible summer employment)
Beginning August 2005

DESCRIPTION:  Develop, maintain and implement collection
policies in consultation with classroom and library faculty and staff.
Conduct analysis and assessment of library collections to improve
overall
collection development.  Monitor library collection funding for
accreditation, program and budget reviews and new curriculum proposals.
Coordinate the library liaison program which includes approximately 35
academic departments and programs.  Oversee the selection program for
monographs, serials, and electronic resources, facilitating the work of
all
library faculty, and coordinate deacquisition processes.  Cultivate
consortial relationships to promote collaborative collection building,
and
she/he will review and evaluate electronic license agreements and
interact
with vendors and SSHE system staff on collection issues.  Coordinate
collection preservation initiatives according to established collection
assessment and conservation/preservation policies.  Participate in the
library instruction program, provide regular reference service at the
main
reference desk, including weekend and evening schedules, and participate
in
collection development and departmental liaison activities.  Share in
university governance though participation on Faculty Senate and/or
university-wide committees. Salary range:  $39,417-$45,630 or
commensurate
with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  ALA accredited master's degree;
evidence of successful experience in: collection development management,
developing a library materials budget, and providing reference service.
Familiarity with providing library instruction and/or teaching;
excellent
analytical, interpersonal and communication skills; successful campus
interview and teaching demonstration.  To be granted tenure the
incumbent
must be enrolled in and have made significant progress towards a second
graduate degree, which must be at minimum a masters degree program,
though a
doctoral program is preferred.

Preferred:  Clear understanding of
collection assessment, development and planning; Knowledge of best
practices
and current trends in the provision of collection development; Knowledge
and
understanding of pedagogical design; Evidence of a commitment to
developing
library collections in support of the university's strong instructional
mission; second masters or doctoral degree.
