SERIALS ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
The Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University - San Marcos is
seeking qualified applicants for the position of Serials Acquisitions
Librarian. This position reports to the Head of Acquisitions and is
responsible for supervision and management of the Serials Acquisitions
Unit and the Bindery Preparation Unit, including a staff of six library
assistants and related student staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise the bibliographic identification, order and
check-in of print and electronic serials as well as the binding, repair
and preservation of all library materials; negotiate license agreements
and establish access for electronic resources; resolve access problems;
coordinate the annual serials review; evaluate serials gifts; make
collection development and preservation decisions for both print and
online serials; provide serials cost estimates and projections; answer a
variety of questions from staff and library patrons regarding serials
and bindery; manage assigned budgetary areas; engage in professional
activities in accordance with Texas State University's standards for
promotion for professional librarians.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS from an ALA accredited library program;
strong interpersonal and oral communication skills; supervisory
experience including the ability to motivate staff and promote a team
environment; analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills;
ability to manage acquisitions and access for print and electronic
serials; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex,
changing environment; ability to exercise initiative and handle multiple
priorities and projects simultaneously. Preferred: Familiarity with
electronic resource management software and license negotiations
techniques; knowledge of print and electronic journal pricing
models/practices including consortial group purchasing; knowledge of
collection development theory and trends; and awareness of library
preservation fundamentals.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: $32,400-$51,276 depending on assigned rank based on
qualifications and experience. Available ranks include Assistant
Librarian, Associate Librarian, and Librarian. Advancement in rank is
available through the Librarian Career Ladder. Benefits include monthly
contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program
after initial ninety days of employment. No state or local income tax.
