Collections Management Coordinator

Minimum Salary: $36,766
The Library of Virginia is seeking an experienced Collections Management
Coordinator for its Technical Services Program. Responsibilities
include: coordinating the Library's collection-development and
acquisitions programs by providing professional knowledge and leadership
to enhance the Library's book, serial, special, and other in-print,
microform, and electronic collections in support of the agency's
mission. Conducting collection assessment studies, participating in
long-range collection- development planning; serving as liaison to
multiple departments, especially public services and Special
Collections; assisting in reviewing approval plans and other vendor
contract services; and closely monitoring expenditures within multiple
budget categories. Coordinates periodic reviews of the Library's
Collection Development Plan, making recommendations for revision as
necessary and working closely with multiple programs and departments to
ensure full agency participation.
Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school
is required. Certificate issued by the Virginia State Board for
Certification preferred. Considerable experience in Library collection
development and acquisitions, library technical services and in the
coordination of staff members involved in collection development.
Knowledge of standard library operating procedures, automated library
systems, and online database searching, bibliographic sources and
research techniques, and library practices relating to gift programs.
Knowledge of technical processing, bibliographic utilities and
bibliographic control. Demonstrated ability to select library materials
according to a collection development policy and to direct and train
staff and to work with staff at all levels. Must be able to organize
workflow and to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent
customer and communication skills a must. An extensive knowledge of the
literature associated with Virginia is highly desirable. An equivalent
combination of education, training and experience may substitute for
educational requirements. Must pass a criminal background check.
