United States. They are a highly valued partner in teaching and
research at the
University, serving a campus community of 16,000 full-time and part-time
students and 2,300 faculty and staff and a broader regional, national
and
international community. The Libraries employ a dynamic and
knowledgeable staff
of 144 FTE and 300 part-time student assistants to provide excellent
services to
a campus community that makes heavy demands on these services.
Collections total
2 million cataloged volumes and the Libraries offer a full spectrum of
resources,
from rare books and manuscripts to an array of electronic resources.
Librarians
work closely with teaching faculty to offer an extensive program of user
education and information literacy instruction. The University Library
on the
main campus is a large 175,000 square feet, 4 story building providing
seats for
1,660. It is open 109 hours a week. It contains several
fully-networked library
classrooms and laboratories, a 60 seat computer user room, a large
networked
reference area, and an interactive media center.
