Subject: Position Announcement
The California State University, Fresno Madden Library has two 12-
month, full-time, tenure-track faculty positions available. Application

HEAD OF CATALOGUING AND ACQUISITIONS: RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide
leadership, management, supervision, and planning for monographic and
serials cataloguing and for acquisitions operations; create an
integrated department from two formerly separate departments (the newly
merged department will include a staff of 2.5 librarians and 14.5
support staff). Cataloguing includes original and copy cataloguing of
print, non-print, and electronic monographs and serials, authority
control, database maintenance, and special projects. Acquisitions
includes ordering, receiving, and claiming all monographic and serial
library materials; processing of invoices and payments; and oversight
of mending and bindery processing. Establish policies; develop
procedures; set goals; design and monitor workflow; adopt and implement
new technologies; supervise, train, and evaluate staff; work
cooperatively with the Collection Development Librarian, the Library
Systems Office, and department heads and personnel of other areas;
serve as a member of the Library's Administrative Council; and
participate in Library and campus committees. QUALIFICATIONS. Required:
At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in cataloguing
at an academic or research library using an automated system and a
bibliographic utility (preferably OCLC); at least 3 years of
supervisory experience; knowledge of current cataloguing standards for
all formats and awareness of emerging trends and technologies in
technical processing; demonstrated leadership, creativity, and
initiative in analyzing and resolving problems and implementing change;
demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to a changing
environment; demonstrated ability to work independently and in
collaboration with others. Preferred: Experience with acquisitions
functions and procedures; knowledge of one or more foreign languages.
COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT LIBRARIAN: RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide vision for
short-term and long-range collection development planning; manage
materials selection in all formats; coordinate and train subject
selectors in collection development liaison duties; select materials in
designated subject areas; maintain and evaluate approval plans; develop
and revise collection policies, procedures, and guidelines; assess and
evaluate collections; collaborate with, and provide outreach to,
University faculty regarding collection development. QUALIFICATIONS.
Required: At least 5 years of professional, academic/research library
experience, of which at least 3 years are in the Acquisitions or
Collection Development areas; familiarity with current and emerging
issues and practices in collection development; strong background in
and understanding of academic publishing and libraries; ability to work
effectively with faculty, staff, and students with diverse ethnic,
cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Strong interpersonal skills,
self-motivated, and flexible.
Both positions currently report to the Dean of Library Services. Rank
and salary are dependent upon academic preparation and professional
experience; minimum $60,000.
Required for both positions: A Master's degree in library science from
an ALA-accredited institution or equivalent; excellent written and oral
communication skills; demonstrated ability to meet the University's
requirements for faculty tenure and promotion.
