Ohio University Libraries
Head of Acquisitions and Serials Control
Ohio University is a member of the Association of Research Libraries
(ARL)
and is an active and founding member of OhioLINK, Ohio's statewide
library
consortium. The Acquisitions budget is approximately $4.7 million per

The Ohio University Libraries invite applications and nominations for
the
position of Head of Acquisitions and Serials Control. This position is
responsible for the acquisitions of materials in all formats,
establishing
policies and procedures associated with ordering, receiving, and payment
activities, maintaining acquisitions records, and providing and
analyzing
acquisitions-related information for collection development and other
library administrative operations. This position reports to the
Assistant
Dean for Technical Services.
Position Responsibilities:
--Administers the Acquisitions and Serials Control Department, including
planning, personnel management, reporting and assessment, and developing
and implementing departmental goals and priorities.
--Oversees daily processes and activities of a staff of 9 performing
ordering, receiving, preliminary cataloging, serials check-in, binding,
and
cost accounting.
--Maintains direct contact with vendors for accounts, orders, access,
and
problem-solving.
--Works closely with the Assistant Dean for Collection Development,
Electronic Access librarian, individual bibliographers, and Technical
Services staff.
--Represent the department at library meetings and the libraries at
State,
Regional, and National levels.
--Serves as Subject Bibliographer for at least one assigned academic
area
of the university, with responsibility for collection development,
library
instruction and promotion of library resources, as well as consulting
with
the faculty and students about their research and information needs.
Participates in committees, task forces, and teams, and in professional
associations.
Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS plus 3-5 years successful
library experience, with a minimum of 2-3 years in acquisitions in an
academic or large public library. Two or more years supervisory
experience
and strong communication and interpersonal skills. General knowledge of
MARC formats, a major bibliographic utility, and integrated library
system
software. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of other technical
services
functions; OCLC features, including OCLC PromptCat, Innovative
Interfaces
integrated library system, Excel and Access.

Salary is commensurate with experience. Ohio University employees enjoy
