The University of Cincinnati invites applications for the position of
Serials & Electronic Resources Cataloging Unit Head.

This position represents an outstanding opportunity for a dynamic and
service-oriented individual to bring vision and energy to a unit
involved in
all aspects of cataloging serials and electronic resources. The Unit
Head is
responsible for providing leadership in serials and electronic resources
cataloging, establishing and revising practices, policies and procedures
for
providing access to these materials, and participates in authority
control
processing and database management projects.

Environment:  The University of Cincinnati is a Carnegie Research I
institution with an international reputation. It is a large, public,
urban
university with a diverse student population of approximately 35,000.
Ranked
in the top 50 of ARL, University Libraries supports the University of
Cincinnati's undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs with a
collection of over 2.8 million volumes in its libraries -- the Walter C.
Langsam Library, Archives and Rare Books Department, University of
Cincinnati Digital Press, and nine college and department libraries.
University Libraries is a leader in the nationally recognized OhioLINK
library consortium, which provides access to approximately 6,000
electronic
journals and 100 full text databases. Current serials subscriptions
number
over 27,000 with a serials budget of $3.3M.

Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in library science from an
ALA-accredited program; one to three years cataloging experience;
experience
with AACR2R, Library of Congress Interpretations, Library of Congress
classification and subject heading schemes; and MARC formats and the
structure and function of automated bibliographic control systems;
knowledge
of current trends in cataloging electronic resources; successful
supervisory
experience with a commitment to mentoring, training, and staff
development;
strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; strong
analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and
as
part of a team to accomplish mutual goals and to adapt to a changing
environment with a positive and innovative attitude; ability to support
and
foster a positive team environment; ability and interest in fulfilling
the
University's requirements for tenure and promotion; and commitment to
professional growth and development.

Desired qualifications: The ideal candidate will also possess experience
cataloging in OCLC or another bibliographic utility; experience with
OhioLINK or another consortial arrangement; experience with Innovative
Interfaces Inc., or another integrated library system; reading knowledge
of
a Western European language; ability to work with a variety of foreign
languages; extensive experience cataloging serials in all formats;
experience in an academic library; skill with on-line catalogs and PC
office
software; and experience in seeking out and using new library
technologies
to improve operations.
