Collection Management Librarian

The University of Vermont invites applications for the position of
Collection 
Management Librarian at the Charles A. Dana Medical Library. This
position 
provides leadership, management, and planning for all aspects of
collection 
management, which includes collection development, acquisitions,
cataloging, 
and serials management. Primary tasks include providing clear direction
in 
the organization and management of diverse print, media, electronic, and

digital collections; preparing and monitoring the acquisitions budget;
and 
engaging in collection budget planning. The successful candidate will
oversee 
3.5 FTE Library staff members and will be responsible for developing and

organizing their workflow patterns. Strong communication skills are of 
paramount importance. 

The Dana Medical Library is a health sciences library serving the
information 
needs of professionals and students in medicine, nursing, allied health
and 
biomedical fields at the University of Vermont and Fletcher Allen Health
Care. 
The Library is currently involved in a major building project and will
open 
its new facility in 2005. Required Qualifications: Master's degree in
library
science from an ALA-accredited library school program or international 
equivalent. Minimum 5 years' professional library experience with at
least 3 
years in a collections/technical services role in an academic medical or
large 
hospital library. Successful leadership and supervisory experience in at
least 
one principal collection management area such as acquisitions,
cataloging, or 
serials management. Experience with technical services applications of a
major 
integrated library system (ILS). Knowledge of trends in information
access at 
an academic medical center and their implications for medical library
collection 
management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; successful
project 
management skills; strong user service orientation; demonstrated
flexibility and 
creativity in working with students, faculty, and staff.  Preferred 
Qualifications: Experience in the use of the NLM classification scheme
and MeSH 
indexing. Knowledge or experience relating to digital library
development, such 
as use and application of alternative metadata schema and thesauri.

in the application of emerging technologies to improve collection
management

dependent upon qualifications and experience with $42,025 minimum for
Assistant 
Professor rank; $50,430 minimum for Associate Professor. Library faculty
