HEAD, ACQUISITIONS DEPARTMENT
Librarian II or III
The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the position
of Head, Acquisitions Department. Under general supervision of the
Associate Director for Collection Services, supervise personnel and
administer activities for acquiring information resources in all formats
in the Acquisitions Department of the University Library. Provide
creative leadership and direction in an increasingly collaborative and
quickly changing acquisitions environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
* Masters degree in Library Science from an American Library
Association accredited library and information studies program.
* Minimum of two years post-MLS experience in an academic library or
research library, including knowledge of Acquisitions operations.
* Knowledge of AACR2 2nd ed. Rev. Marc 21 format and Dublin Core or
Metadata
* Successful supervisory experience with commitment to mentoring,
training and staff development.
* Excellent analytical, interpersonal and supervisory skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a complex,
changing environment.
* Familiarity with vendors of library materials and with issues,
trends and operational needs of library acquisitions processes.
* Understanding of and commitment to the use of digital technology.
* Experience with an integrated library system and with bibliographic
utilities.
* Experience negotiating license agreements for digital content.
* Ability to deal with ambiguity, change and innovation.
* Ability to assess, develop and implement new acquisitions
technologies.
* Proficiency using a variety of software including spreadsheets.
* Ability to use tools to query relational databases.
* Budgeting experience preferred.
* Knowledge of one or more foreign languages preferred.
