Bibliographic Services Librarian
The University of Windsor’s Leddy Library invites applications for a
tenure-track librarian position commencing as early as July 1, 2004. Rank
will be commensurate with experience. This position is subject to final
budgetary approval.
The Leddy Library is an active partner in teaching and research at the
University and is recognized as an information technology leader in Canada,
providing a vast array of digital resources and services. We seek a dynamic,
innovative, team-oriented professional to provide leadership and vision for
the Library in developing technologies and workflow for bibliographic access
and metadata control.
Reporting to the Head of Acquisitions/Bibliographic Services, the successful
candidate will participate in setting departmental policies and procedures,
and in the planning and management of departmental workflow. In addition the
incumbent will create original cataloguing records for print, non-print and
digital resources, ensure the data integrity of catalogue records, and
contribute to acquisitions, and interlibrary loan activities. S/he will
demonstrate his/her strong commitment to user service through positive and
productive interaction with faculty, students and library colleagues.
The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic team and will be expected
to make a strong contribution to the overall planning and management of
library services and to provincial and national consortial activities.
Librarians provide service to the university, service to the profession and
participate in research/ scholarship/ creative activity in addition to their

The successful candidate will be familiar with current trends, standards and
emerging technologies in acquisitions, bibliographic access, document
delivery
and interlibrary loans. S/he will also possess the initiative, creativity
and
strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to coach, train and
mentor librarian colleagues, as well as a talented staff of highly skilled
support staff in these areas. S/he will possess a high degree of flexibility
and be open to change. The incumbent will have an aptitude for complex
analytical and detailed work; the ability to deal with complex and ambiguous
situations and the ability to work quickly and accurately in a production-
oriented environment.
An ALA-accredited MLS (or equivalent) is required. The ideal candidate will
have at least one year of professional experience in a
technical/bibliographic
services department of an academic library. Preferred qualifications
include:
demonstrated knowledge of AACR2R, MARC formats, Library of Congress
classification and subject headings; knowledge of acquisitions, cataloguing
and authority control in an online environment; knowledge of existing and
emerging bibliographic metadata standards and practices (e.g. Dublin Core,
EAD, FRBR); and experience with web development, design and maintenance.
