DIRECTOR OF COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT
Gettysburg College Library invites applications for a service-oriented
librarian to head its Collection Development Department. Librarians with
three or more years experience in an academic library are encouraged to
apply.
Musselman Library is a dynamic organization where every staff member makes
a difference. We serve a small, liberal arts community of 2,500 students.
We are looking for a librarian who can get excited about building
collections to support new programs and offer leadership in existing subject
areas. Some recent initiatives at Gettysburg College include new programs
in Civil War Era Studies, Biochemistry, Environmental Studies, Italian,
Asian Studies, and Film Studies. We recently received a multi-million
dollar gift to establish a Conservatory of Music. (See:
an03.html>).
This is a senior management position which provides vision and leadership in
all areas of collection development. The Director of Collection Development
will guide the formulation of collection policies and coordinate the
activities of the library liaisons. This position works closely with the
Acquisitions Librarian in the allocation of a $1.2 million materials budget
and will evaluate and select library resources in all formats to support a
wide range of undergraduate programs.
The Director of Collection Development will oversee the library gift
program,
manage the library approval plans and collection endowments, perform
liaison
work with selected departments and be responsible for collection
maintenance,
inventory and long range planning for space allocation. The position will
lead preservation initiatives, serve on library and/or college-wide
committees, and benefit from numerous continuing education and professional
development opportunities.
This position reports to the Director of the Library and includes
supervision
of four FTE staff with oversight of interlibrary loan, reserves and media
selection.

* ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science and three
or more years of relevant work experience.
* Supervisory experience.
* Collection development in an academic library, preferably in a liberal
arts
setting.

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Gettysburg College is committed to creating a more diverse community; as

of that process, the College gives candidates from historically
underrepresented groups strong consideration. Salary is competitive. A
liberal benefits package is available. Send letter of application, resume

Resources Specialist, Gettysburg College, Box 2443, Gettysburg, PA 17325,
