Subject: ALA Midwinter meeting announcement
The ALCTS Creative Ideas in Technical Services Discussion Group will meet
at ALA Midwinter on Sunday, January 11, 2004 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the San
Diego Marriott's Santa Rosa Room.
This discussion group consists of round table discussions on various topics
with 8-10 people participating at each table. In addition to interested
participants, we seek volunteers to serve as facilitators or recorders at
each table.
FACILITATORS introduce the topic, ask persons to introduce themselves, keep
track of the meeting time, and, most importantly, keep the discussion
moving and ensure that all are able to participate. The co-chairs will
supply a list of questions for each topic that facilitators can use to keep
the discussion focused and moving. Facilitators may also incorporate their
own questions as well. Experience has shown that very few tables make it
through all the questions in the time provided!
RECORDERS participate in the discussion and take notes of the discussion
which will be forwarded to the co-chairs. The co-chairs will use the notes
to write a report which will be posted/published on the ALCTS Web site.
Facilitators and recorders will receive acknowledgement in the report.
Please contact Michael Babinec at m-babinec_at_northwestern.edu by Monday,
January 5 to volunteer. If you have a preference for topic or role
(facilitator or recorder), include that preference in your email, as well
as at least one alternate topic in case your first choice is taken.
Topics:
1. Open access to scholarly journals
2. Online ordering systems
3. What do we want in next generation ILSs?
4. Training staff in authority control
5. Technical services involvement in digitization projects
6. Using macros and other automation tools in technical services workstations
7. Patron interaction with the catalog
8. Relations between public and technical services
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in San Diego.
