Subject: ALA Midwinter meeting announcement
What: ALCTS-Pre-Order Pre-Catalog Searching Discussion Group
When: Saturday, January 10, 2004 9:30-11:00 am
Where: Westin Horton Plaza, San Diego, Plaza A
Presenter: Janet Lee-Smeltzer, University of Maryland Baltimore County
Topic: In January 2003, The University of Maryland and Affiliated
Institutions, of which UMBC is a member, migrated to a new ILS with a
single bibliographic record configuration. A majority of the member
libraries do not export full bibliographic records for ordering. UMBC
conducted a survey to persuade that exporting full bibliographic records
from OCLC at point of ordering is a better overall option than keying in
brief acquisitions records in a consortial environment and to affirm that
it is a standard practice in libraries. In this discussion group session
Janet will present the survey findings and discuss other issues related to
the survey project. Discussion group attendees will be invited to
participate in a discussion of their local policies regarding this topic.
A discussion of future DG topics and election of vice-chair will follow
the the main meeting.
