ELECTRONIC RESOURCES LIBRARIAN
Georgia State University is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable and
visionary librarian to serve as Electronic Resources Librarian. Georgia
State University has an annual serials budget of approximately $3 million
dollars for both print and electronic resources. It is a full participant
in GALILEO, which provides substantial online information sources, and in
consortial purchases with other research libraries. The University Library
seeks a librarian for a faculty rank (non-tenure) position to provide
leadership in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the
Library's collection of electronic resources. The position reports to the
Head of the Acquisitions Department and will have administrative
responsibility for the Acquisitions Department in the absence of the
department head.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
coordinating the purchase and licensing of all electronic materials;
implementing and managing electronic resource management applications
including GIL (Voyager), Serials Solutions, SFX and GLRI; keeping abreast
of developments in electronic resources; working closely with the library
and University community to implement access to electronic resources and
facilitate communication; serving on the Collections Council Committee;
performing administrative duties and participating in university and
professional activities including research and publication. Successful
candidate should possess ASERL's Competencies for Research Librarians
listed at www.aserl.org
Required
ALA-accredited or Georgia BOR approved MLS degree. PREFERRED: Experience
with electronic resources, knowledge of the issues involved in
negotiating contracts and licenses for electronic resources, experience
working in an integrated automated environment. Recent graduates are
encouraged to apply.
Library and University Environment
Georgia State University (GSU) is a dynamic urban institution located in
downtown Atlanta with an enrollment of approximately 31,000 students. The
close relationship that exists between the university and its surrounding
business, government and cultural communities makes GSU unique in the
University System of Georgia and distinctive among universities in the
South.
The University Library houses over 1,373,800 volumes, subscribes to more
than 7,900 serials, and is a Federal Document Depository with more than
820,000 government documents. Its growing Media Center has holdings of
approximately 21,800 audio, video, and multimedia materials. The carefully
selected collections are designed to serve varied research and
instructional needs at the undergraduate and graduate levels of the
university community. Library services are supported by GIL (GALILEO
Interconnected Libraries) with integrated functions for OPAC, acquisitions,
circulation systems and serials control, including a system-wide union
catalog as well as a library-wide Novell LAN. The University System of
Georgia has a statewide system known as GALILEO providing equal access to
electronic resources and other materials for libraries throughout the
state. Pullen Library is a member of the Association of Southeastern
Research Libraries; the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), and!
the Atlanta Regional Consortium for Higher Education, consisting of
fourteen academic and research libraries serving nineteen institutions in
the greater Atlanta metropolitan area.

Salary and Rank
$33,500 - $40,000 for 12 months commensurate with the candidate's
experience.
