Acquisitions Librarian – position # 998520

Nova Southeastern University invites applications for an Acquisitions
Librarian. Under the direction of the Head of Technical Services, this
position supervises a unit that manages all aspects of library acquisitions
for the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center
and its branches. The Acquisitions Librarian will provide leadership in,
and manage, all aspects of library acquisitions - including pre-order
searching, ordering, claiming, receiving, binding, and paying of resources
in all formats, including serials.  The successful applicant will supervise
and train 5 FTE library paraprofessionals and promote staff development.

Essential Job Functions:
Develop and maintain knowledge of the library materials market for print,
multimedia and electronic resources; Stay abreast of current developments
and trends in the acquisition of library materials, the publishing market,
and new technologies; Evaluate current acquisitions policies and procedures
and recommend appropriate changes, especially in response to changing
technology; Serve as primary contact for vendor and publisher
representatives and conduct negotiations to secure discounts and services;
Track vendor performance; Create and distribute routine accounting and
statistical reports; Serve as the primary problem solver for the
Acquisitions Unit; Commit to employee training and development; Prepare
staff for the Library’s migration to a web-based integrated on-line
system; Commit to excellent customer service; Respond to questions from
library staff and other campus departments about materials requests and
other acquisitions issues; Work cooperatively with members of the
Technical Services team, and serve on the Technical Services Management
Team; Chair the monthly meetings of the Acquisitions Unit; Work
collaboratively with the Head of Collection Development to monitor
expenditures and choose vendors; Attend professional meetings
representing the Library, which may require travel; Conduct appropriate
special assignments/projects as assigned.

Qualifications Required:
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school; Two to four years of
acquisitions and/or serials experience with an integrated library system;
Knowledge of business and accounting practices; Working knowledge of MS
Excel; Experience with OCLC; Successful supervision experience; Ability
to work cooperatively with colleagues, faculty, staff and vendors; Skills
in problem-solving and workflow analysis; Customer service skills;
Aptitude for handling complex analytical work; Ability to balance
priorities and meet deadlines; Strong commitment to enhancing service
through teamwork; Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication
skills.

Desired Qualifications:
Successful experience supervising, training, and coordinating workflow in
a technical service library setting; Experience with Innovative Interfaces
online library systems; Experience acquiring electronic resources;
Advanced knowledge of MS Excel; Working knowledge of Access; Experience
working in a multi-cultural learning environment.

Salary & Benefits:
$40,000 minimum dependent on qualifications and experience.  Competitive
benefits package includes TIAA/CREF retirement plan, health insurance, and
tuition benefits.  Florida has no state income tax.
