POSITION AVAILABLE

New Mexico State University

New Mexico State University Library invites nominations and applications
for the position of Department Head for Technical Services.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position directly reports to the Associate Dean
of the Library and is responsible for the daily operational supervision and
management of the department. Specific duties include: establish and carry
out goals and priorities for department; directly supervise 4 technical
services unit heads who select, train and evaluate staff (21 FTE); provide
leadership and support to faculty in department; and facilitate
communication within the department and between technical services and
other library departments; as a member of the department heads group and
the management group advises the Dean of the Library on library-wide
issues; contributes to meeting library goals/objectives/targets.  As a
member of the library faculty will pursue an active and ongoing program of
professional development, research, and service appropriate for his/her
rank at the university.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: MLS from an ALA-accredited program at time of hire; a minimum of
five years of progressively responsible experience which includes recent
management of a technical services unit(s) within an academic research
library setting; demonstrated evidence of successful progressive
supervisory and management experience; excellent interpersonal, written and
oral communication skills; evidence of creativity in problem-solving;
strong organizational skills; strong ability to work in collaborative group
structures; strong  team building skills; demonstrated leadership skills;
ability to work as member of the management group; ability to multitask.
Preferred:  Ability to plan projects and oversee multiple departmental
operations; experience in workflow analysis and design; experience with
Voyager; experience with automated acquisitions system including EDI and
fund accounting; experience with cataloging standards and practices;
experience with serials management; solid understanding of the research
university environment; a strong record of professional accomplishments and
commitment to ongoing development.

POSITION INFORMATION: This is a 12-month tenure-track or tenurable at time
of hire position at rank of associate professor depending upon
qualifications.  Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience.
