Subject: Meeting Announcement
The Collection Management in Public Libraries Discussion Group will meet
at ALA Annual in Toronto on Monday, June 23 from 9:30 to 11:00 in room
716A of the Convention Center.
We'll have 2 separate but related discussion topics this time:
(1) Opening Day Collections
(2) The melding of acquisitions, collection development, cataloging, and
processing functions, especially in light of outsourcing practices.
Questions we'll consider include, but are not limited to:
What ODC projects are underway or recently completed?
What new tools and services are vendors offering to make them easier?
Which were indispensable, and which still need to be improved?
What challenges did you face, and how did you resolve them?
What advice do you have for libraries that are undertaking an ODC
for the first time in a long time?
Have you experienced a melding of collection development with the
traditional technical services functions of acquisitions, cataloging, and
processing?
How has workflow changed?
What has been the effect on the collection? On technical services?
Our discussions are always lively and freewheeling. Many participants
consider this discussion group to be one of their conference highlights.
Come join us for a fun and enlightening time, and meet other collection
folks who really understand what you're going through!
