HEAD OF ACQUISITIONS SERVICES
Scarborough-Phillips Library seeks an energetic, service-oriented librarian
to provide leadership and management in all areas of acquisitions services
including serials and cataloging.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Library Director and serving as a member of the Library
Administrative Group, the Head of Acquisitions is responsible for planning,
organizing, and managing the workflow for the department, which consists of
acquisitions, serials, and cataloging, and implementing collection
management policies. Responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of
acquisitions (monographs and serials in all formats, approval plans, budget
management, and management of contracts and licenses.) Works in close
cooperation with the Library Director to manage the acquisitions budget.
Works cooperatively with the Department's staff and others as appropriate to
set goals, establish priorities and workflow, and leads the ongoing review
of departmental policies, procedures, and organization. Fosters effective
communication and teamwork within the department and with other departments
within the Library. Leads the Department in the evaluation and efficient,
innovative use of new technologies in a changing environment. Keeps current
regarding standards, practices, and emerging technologies for bibliographic
services and their implications for workflow, effectiveness, and customer
service at SEU. Supervises support staff; maintains strong vendor relations,
participates in the library's bibliographic instruction and reference
activities which may involve evening and weekend work.
QUALIFICATIONS
ALA-accredited degree in library or information science; knowledge of
current standards and practices in acquisitions, cataloging, serials, and
integrated library systems; three years' experience in an academic library
in at least one of the areas of direct responsibility (acquisitions,
cataloging, serials); excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal,
and supervisory skills; ability to assess, develop, and implement
technology in the workplace; strong customer service orientation with
excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of publishing
trade, including OP, electronic licensing, and serials; and budgeting
experience; familiarity with SIRSI automated system preferred.
SALARY AND RANK
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an eleven (11)
month faculty appointment at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level.
