Linda Hall Library of science, engineering & technology is known
internationally for its strong collections in science, engineering, and
technology and for the services it provides to users of the collections.
With an extraordinary serials collection comprised of 15,000 current titles
and a total of over 45,000 titles as well as a monograph collection in
excess of one million volumes, its research materials are on a level with
that of great universities and governmental libraries.  Active collection
development and acquisitions programs assure continued growth of the
collection and include an international exchange program with 450 partners
throughout the world.

Environment:
The Library, located on fourteen acres in the heart of Kansas City’s
cultural community, has spacious, well-tended grounds maintained as an urban
arboretum that provide a beautiful setting for the stately brick structure
that houses the collections, dedicated staff, and user-oriented services.
Large, comfortable reading rooms welcome researchers and visitors.
Spacious,
organized workspaces provide for a pleasant work atmosphere.  Congenial,
collaborative staff and excellent systems support are committed to the
continued improvement of services and collections that exceed patrons’
needs.
The Linda Hall Library is a dichotomy with an eye on future innovations
while protecting traditional library values.  Cooperative working
relationships are fostered through regular, informal group discussions where
creative ideas are encouraged and nurtured.

General Scope:
Manage the growth of the collection and the collection development policy.
Oversee the materials and acquisitions budget.  Present the Library, the
collections, and services to the local, national, and international
community.
Maintain and develop vendor relationships.  Consult with appropriate staff
on
matters of common concern.  Assist with long-range planning for Library
programs and services.  Implement directives and assignments from the
Library
Operations Officer.

Education requirements:
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school.

Skills Required:
* Demonstrated budget management experience
* Coaching and mentoring/management potential
* Creative and proactive approach to building and maintaining library
collections in multiple subject areas
* Understanding of life sciences information and its sources
* Highly developed negotiating skills
* Knowledge of licensing of electronic materials
* Established working relationships with national and international
publishers and vendors in the publishing world (print and electronic)
