Subject: Meeting/Workshop Announcement
Rick Lugg and Ruth Fischer of R2 Consulting are pleased to announce that
we are running a preconference entitled "From Selection to Access: Best
Practices in the Collection Development/Technical Services Workflow" in
conjunction with the Charleston Library Conference. Our material is based
on our consulting work over the past three years with academic libraries
ranging from ARLs to small colleges--in situations involving most of the
major book, serials, and ILS vendors. Though the session approaches
workflow from the library's viewpoint, it should also prove useful to
vendors selling to and providing data to libraries.
SESSION DESCRIPTION:
"Technical services staffs are smaller than ever, and the tasks confronting
them more complex and diverse. It's increasingly important that libraries
define a "mainstream" of activity and material that can be processed more
efficiently. Library staff must learn to view the technical services
workflow in its entirety, from selection to access, in order to understand
connections, dependencies, and hand-offs among different functions. The
session will include case studies and practical advice, as well as
techniques for analyzing your institution's workflow."
DATE: Wednesday, October 30th
TIME: 1:00-4:00 PM
