BIBLIOGRAPHIC SERVICES MANAGER

The Orange County Public Library (OCPL) is seeking an enthusiastic, 
experienced and innovative professional to manage and lead our 
Bibliographic Services function, which consists of three units: 
Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Collection Management (evaluation and 
selection of materials). Bibliographic Services is currently comprised of 
33 staff, including eight professional librarians and three supervisory 
professional librararians. Each of the three supervisors is responsible 
for one unit and reports directly to the manager. The manager must have a 
broad understanding of current library bibliographic practices in all 
three unit areas (including contract administration and OCLC/MARC 
cataloging). 

Strong written and verbal communication skills and a dedicated customer 
service approach are crucial to success in this position. The manager must 
collaborate closely with OCPL's management team and other staff while 
leading, motivating, and effectively managing the Bibliographic unit. The 
person OCPL is seeking has a broad perspective and is strongly committed 
to remaining technologically current, and to identifying emerging 
technologies and standards as they relate to library service. The 
successful candidate will also have background in developing strategies 
and goals for a crucial infrastructure unit that serves the organization's 
overall objectives. 

We are looking for a leader who can make sound decisions independently 
(often under deadline constraints) and will is a consensus builder. The 
Bibliographic Services Manager also will understand the critical 
importance of fuctioning well within a management team, and demonstrates 
diplomacy, tact, and sensitivity realtive to individual and organizational 
needs. 

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's Degree in Library Science or 
Library and Information Science.
 
The ideal candidate will also possess a high degree of computer literacy, 
including expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, an integrated library 
system, and using the Internet as it related to library technical 
services. 

Experience Requirement: 

Minimum of four years of progressively more responsible experience that 
reflects the skills described above. 

Management and supervisory background with a large library system with 
multiple branches is desirable, as is specific bibliographic experience. 
Salary Information: The monthly range for this position is $4082 to $6758 
per month maximum. Starting salary is negotiable depending on the breadth 
and depth of pertinent experience, but OCPL does not anticipate hiring a 
candidate beyond the mid-salary range for this position, which is
