SERIALS & ELECTRONIC ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
Georgia State University is seeking an energetic, knowledgeable and
visionary librarian to serve as Serials and Electronic Acquisitions
Librarian. Georgia State University has an annual serials budget of
approximately $3 million dollars for both print and electronic
resources. It is a full participant in GALILEO, which provides
substantial online information sources, and in consortial purchases
with other research libraries. Pullen Library seeks a person with
serials experience for a faculty rank (non-tenure) position to manage
all aspects of electronic serials acquisition, oversee the efficient
operation of the Serials Unit and to serve as Assistant Department
Head. The position reports to the Head of the Acquisitions Department
and will have administrative responsibility for the Acquisitions
Department in the absence of the department head.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but are not limited
to: coordinating the purchase and licensing of all electronic
materials; overseeing all aspects of serials acquisitions including
ordering, receipt, invoicing, claiming, binding, vendor assessment,
and other serials-related functions; coordinating the work of the
serials unit with the other appropriate areas to ensure efficient
workflow and communication; serving as Assistant Department Head;
and participating in university and professional activities
including research and publication.
Required
ALA-accredited master's degree in library science plus two years
serials experience. Computer skills. Experience supervising or
organizing the work of others. PREFERRED: Experience with
electronic resources including negotiating contracts and licenses
for electronic resources. Some budget management experience.
Experience working in an integrated automated environment,
preferably Voyager. Excellent communication skills. Attention to
detail. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated
interest in professionaland research activities.
Library and University Environment
Georgia State University (GSU) is a dynamic urban institution located
in downtown Atlanta with an enrollment of approximately 25,000
students. The close relationship that exists between the university
and its surrounding business, government and cultural communities
makes GSU unique in the University System of Georgia and distinctive
among universities in the South.
The William Russell Pullen Library houses over 1,300,000 volumes,
subscribes to more than 8,000 serials, and is a Federal Document
Depository with more than 850,000 government documents. Its growing
Media Center has holdings of approximately 12,000 audio, video, and
multimedia materials. The carefully selected collections are designed
to serve varied research and instructional needs at the undergraduate
and graduate levels of the university community. Library services are
supported by GIL (GALILEO Interconnected Libraries) with integrated
functions for OPAC, acquisitions, circulation systems and serials
control, including a system-wide union catalog. The University System
of Georgia has a statewide system known as GALILEO providing equal
access to electronic resources and other materials for libraries
throughout the state.
Pullen Library is a member of the Association of Southeastern Research
Libraries; the Southeastern Library Network (SOLINET), and the Atlanta
Regional Consortium for Higher Education, consisting of fourteen
academic and research libraries serving nineteen institutions in the
greater Atlanta metropolitan area.

Salary and Rank
$37,000 - $43,000 for 12 months commensurate with the candidate's
experience. Appointment at a faculty rank, on a contract renewal
basis.
