Title: Director, Library Information Systems & Technical Services
(LISTS)Associate Professor Level
Service: 12-month contract
Responsibilities/Duties:
The Director of Information Systems & Technical Services will manage
Library cataloging and bibliographic control, acquisitions and
collection development, library automation, periodicals check-in and
claims, binding, and electronic resources. There are also projected
collaborations with the university webmaster, media technical staff from
LIS 2 and with Administrative and Academic Computing. LISTS staff
includes an Administrative assistant, five professionals, ten civil
service staff plus a varying number of student assistants. The Director
is one of three members of the Dean's LIS Administrative Council and may
represent the dean in a variety of campus, state and national committees
and professional organizations.
Qualifications:
MSLS/ALA accredited degree and additional graduate degree(s), preferably
in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Business
Administration with a strong systems management emphasis; computing and
systems knowledge beyond basic use and general knowledge; familiarity
with library automation and large-scale multi-module systems with
previous installation and operations experience that demonstrates system
management capability; familiarity with core library technical service
operations in acquisitions, cataloging, serials management,
bibliographic control and systems, knowledge of US MARC format; use of
LSCH and OCLC; familiarity with web-based OPACs and HTML, and metadata
standards; demonstration of effective interpersonal and communication
skills.
Setting:
Chicago State University is a fully accredited-public, urban, commuter
and residential institution. It has a culturally diverse population with
over 8,000 students. A new, state-of-the-art library will be opening in
2004.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
