Subject: Position Announcement
The Head of Technical Services at the Cleveland Public Library is
scheduled to retire soon. The position will be posted in the January 7
and 14, 2002 LJ Hot Line and a very few other places.
Since the application deadline is January 21, I am posting a brief
description of the position. This is one of 11 top administrators at
CPL.
The Head of Tech. Services supervises Preservation, Cataloging,
Acquisitions, Processing, and Shipping and supervises 70 highly
unionized staff. CPL is currently a DRA library but will probably
have to shift to another system; therefore, the Head of Tech. Services
should have some systems background.
Qualifications include an MLS and 5-6 years management-level work.
SALARY RANGE: $93,555 to $130,474. Appointment will be made at the
beginning salary range with ca. 5% annual raises. The Head of Tech.
Services is in charge of the Library's Lakeshore facility, where the
technical operations (except automation) are housed.
CPL has over 2 million volumes and a world-class Special Collections.
The collections documenting the history of world art and the special
architecture holdings are noteworthy. This is a great opportunity for
someone who would like to make a positive impact in the world
of public and research libraries. There are few such opportunities
available.
Cost of living in Cleveland is rather low, so the high salary is really
extraordinary.
