PUBLIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN IN THE HUMANITIES

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries invites applications for
the position of Public Services Librarian in the Humanities.  The person
filling this position will report to the Head, Research and Information I.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Provides reference, instruction and collection
development services to students, faculty, and staff, especially in the
fields of Literature, Communica-tion, Foreign Languages, Film Studies, and
Theatre.  Specifically, the successful applicant will provide specialized
reference service in the Humanities as well as general reference service,
including periodic weekend and evening assignments on a public services
desk; contribute significantly to the Libraries’ instruction program by
conducting general and specialized subject-oriented instruction and by
working closely with instructors in the English Department's Composi-tion
program and the Communications Department's Public Speaking courses to
foster the development of information literacy skills in undergraduates;
evaluate and develop the existing electronic, serial and monographic
collections in the Humanities and assess opportunities to acquire and
access information through technology, cooperation, and document delivery;
create content for library web pages in the Humanities; act as Library
liaison to the English, Communication, Foreign Languages, Film Studies,
and Theatre depart-ments; participate in overall collection assessment
activities; engage in scholarly pursuits and provide service to the
university, the community, and the profession in accordance with Library
and University standards for promotion and tenure.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited degree or international equivalent.
Subject background or academic library experience in the Humanities.
Experience with traditional and electronic information resources. Awareness
of trends in the areas of information literacy advocacy and programming,
digital reference, and collection development, including licensing and
consortia issues. Initiative, flexibility, and excellent communication and
interpersonal skills. Demonstrated commitment to public service. Ability
to work cooperatively with diverse staff and patrons and the ability to
work flexi-bly and creatively in a rapidly changing environment. Ability or
demonstrated potential to engage in scholarly pur-suits and provide service
to the university, the community and the profession in accor-dance with
Library and University standards for promotion and tenure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Second Masters in a relevant subject area.
Reference and user instruction experience. Ability to evaluate information
resources produced in a language or languages other than English.

SALARY RANGE: This is a tenure-track, twelve-month academic faculty position
at the Rank II Assistant Professor level. Minimum salary is $43,962. Salary
will be negotiated according to the qualifications and experience of the
