Subject: Position Announcement

Head, Acquisitions Department. Responsible for the efficient and effective
expenditure of the University Libraries' materials budget and the
supervision of all functions and staff in the three units of the
Acquisitions Department: the Binding Unit, the Monographic Acquisitions
Unit, and the Serials Unit.  Works closely with the Bibliographic Services
Department and the Chief Collection Development Officer. Oversees the
Libraries' approval plans, firm orders, and serials subscriptions in all
formats, as well as licensing agreements.  Duties include the maintenance
of cordial and effective vendor relationships, resolution of complex
acquisitions problems, and the management of Acquisitions staff and
materials work-flow.  Qualifications: ALA accredited MLS (or equivalent)
degree required.  Demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience in the
management of acquisitions operations.  Successful management of
acquisitions budgets and programs.  Demonstrated ability to plan
effectively. Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, oral
and written communication.  Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
Experience with a state of the art online library acquisitions management
system.  Knowledge of trends in higher education, library and curricular
development.  Evidence of professional development and professional or
scholarly contributions. Compensation:  commensurate with qualifications
