Collection Development Librarian (Assistant Professor) (Search extended)
Sims Memorial Library, Southeastern Louisiana University, seeks an
experienced and enthusiastic professional to work as Collection Development
Librarian. Southeastern is located in Hammond, in close proximity to New
Orleans, Baton Rouge, and the Gulf Coast. The Library is a member of
LOUIS, a statewide network of academic libraries utilizing NOTIS software
to provide access to OPACs, indexes and databases.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS with three years experience in
collection development in an academic library; working knowledge of
standard selection and evaluation methods/tools; proven expertise in
manipulation of collection data to produce reports; strong organizational,
interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Expertise in
acquisitions and vendor relations; working knowledge of at least one
romance language or German; additional master's degree preferred.
Duties: This position will be responsible for evaluation and development of
the Library's collection. Oversees departmental liaison programs.
Recommends fund allocation for purchase of library materials. Selections
appropriate vendors. Responsible for approval plans, deselection, and
gifts. Establishes and maintains effective communication with academic
departments.
Applicants must be committed to working with diversity. The position is at
the department head level, and is tenure-track. Minimum salary: $38,000.
